Jack fruit

>> Sunday, September 21, 2008

According to the Wikipedia encyclopaedia Jack fruit or (Nangka) in my place is a species of tree of the Mulberry family. Its scientific name is Artocarpus Heterophyllus. Its taste is sweet and the young jack fruit can be cooked with curries mix with coconut milk. Hubby brought this ripe jackfruit late Saturday evening from the backyard garden and I took the pictures.

have to use oil (suggesting cooking oil )to get rid of the sticky white sap that bleeds from the fruit when you open it with knife.
The fruits can also be used to make jack fruit's chips.

For our information this fruit is very low in Saturated Fat, Cholesterol and Sodium. It is also a good source of Vitamin C and Manganese. Thinking twice?..

Yeah I want to learn some from your place too if you do have weird fruits there :) This fruit actually can grow to 36 kg (80 lbs) in weight and up to 90 cm (36 in) long and 50 cm (20 in) in diameter.(wikipedia source) You can spend days finishing it lol.

I love nangka. They are sweet and fragrant. I love the crunchy type. But I find it being sold very expensively here in Subang Jaya.

Yes they are sweet and the flesh is thick. But when you have them bearing 3-6 fruits in one tree you are thinking of someone whom you want to share it as you cannot finish them all.Wish you were near as I can give it freely to you ;)
