Gallivanter, Another name for wani fruit is Kuini, and I think it is pretty much the same since it has the 'ni' sound at the back. Its taste like mango except that it has a sweet strong smell when it has ripen. Thanks for stopping by .
FJL, your wani reminds me of our very own quinine mango or 'machang' (in chinese). Dad planted 2 of these trees in front of the house and the smell is very strong whenever the fruits are ripening. As a kid, I was really excited whenever a ripe fruit drops to the ground and sister and I would rush to beat each other to pick up the fruit. Sometimes, we became impatient and we shook the tree. Sure enough, a few of them will drop.

Lili11: Yes the smell is really strong, esp if I put it in the car whenever friends ask for wani. Like durian's smell it can makes me dizzy.
Bangchik and Kakdah :
I only can finish 2-4 wani a day. Sitting there under the tree peeling wani is a good idea especially with the family.
